Anyway, yesterday was quite a good day, S's boss had asked me if I could help her do some reconciliation work for her taxes (seeing as I have nothing else to do), so I had driven over to her house to meet her for the first time and to collect the stuff that needed doing. Having only heard her on the phone so far, I didn't quite know what to expect, but she was actually quite lovely, and she laughed when I said that some days I was tempted to turn S's phone off when it got to 8.30pm so she couldn't call - and she even said, that was a good plan and I should do it! Anyway besides the help with her tax stuff, she asked me if I would like to help her pack some stuff up for her impending move, seeing as I had nothing better to do, so I agreed and arranged to liaise with her brother about coming over next week to help out.
All in all I was fee;ling pretty good. I came home and went off to my Tai Chi class which was a blast as always and I got to meet another English lady I had been told about who came to the class. It was so funny - our instructor introduced us and said that we probably knew each other already (is England really THAT small....lol). The English lady was very friendly, and she has lived here for roughly 20 years, so was able to tell me about lots of places to go, including which supermarket sold English stuff, so I can finally get the Bisto Powder I have been dying to get hold of since arriving, and also the Golden Syrup that no-one seems to have even heard of over this side of the US although my sis can get it in Mass...lol...Anyway, we chatted for a while with our Tai Chi instructor listening and laughing. I said to her, "do we sound alike to you?" and she laughed and said we sounded identical - well the 2 of us laughed - she is a broad Cockney and I am from Cheshire! We sound nothing alike, which was really amusing.
Well after my banter with my fellow Brit, I returned home and tried to call S. He had sent me a text message while I was at Tai Chi telling me that everything was fine, but could I call when I got home. When I called his number, it rang for a while and then went to voicemail, so I assumed that he had arrived at his hotel in Denver and had gone out for dinner or something, so I just left him a message and didn't really think any more of it. I decided to get on with some of the tax stuff while I waited for S to call me back. It got 9.30pm and the boys went off to bed and I started to wonder why S hadn't called. I got out his travel itinerary and realised that his flight to Denver was actually only just about due to land, so it was no wonder he hadn't called (silly me). Within about 10 minutes the phone rang, and the silly phone announcement said "call from S...". I answered, and asked how he was. S proceeded to tell me that the whole thing was a total nightmare. He couldn't get a rental car anywhere, it was Spring Break and where needed to be outside of Denver, the place was over-run with kids hanging out and having fun. The guys he was supposed to be meeting had rented a chalet or something. He couldn't get a hotel - yada yada yada.....I was thinking to myself "OMG this isn't good, it's getting late and he has nowhere to stay, no car to drive anywhere to find somewhere to stay". You know the usual stuff us women think of. "So what are you going to do?" I asked to which S replied "Oh I found a run down little house to stay at"...I was thinking WTF..."a what?" I asked...S said again "I found a run down little house to stay in......in Sierra Madre!" I paused then said "You mean you're home?" and S said "didn't you hear me beep?" at which point I hung up the phone and ran through the house and out the kitchen door onto the driveway and launched myself at poor S who was just getting out of the car! After what seemed like an hour, I let him go...."Wow" he said "I take you're pleased to see me - I thought I would surprise you!".
Have a fabulous day everyone!
